06 Aug Navitas Compliance Solutions gains MCGA Approval
The recent downturn in the global economy and the increase of Third World poverty have contributed to the increase in maritime security incidents. These have become more frequent, violent, and costly and increasingly threaten to undermine order in the international maritime environment.
A great deal of attention has been focused on Somalia, but piracy, transnational crime and terrorism is a problem worldwide. Recent coordination efforts among states in South East Asia have helped improved security in this area, but elsewhere piracy has expanded.
Pirates and organised crime prey on all types of ships, from luxury yachts to fishing trawlers to oil and chemical tankers, particularly any vessel with few crew members. In response to this the maritime community has introduced a series of special measures to enhance maritime security, this includes security specific training for seafarers whether on vessels or MODU’s.
In recognition of this security awareness training must be undertaken by all seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on ships which, in accordance to the revised STCW 2010 Code as of 1st January 2014, on all vessels that are required to comply with the ISPS Code.
